Lauren Hunt is Assistant Professor of Horn at Utah State University, and is the only registered Suzuki French horn teacher in the western United States. She has taught extensively around the globe, and is a graduate of the Global Leaders Program, which educates young musicians about educational initiatives, provides guest artists to “El Sistema”-style programs in the Western Hemisphere and gives support to entrepreneurial music education programs. She worked for three years as a guest artist in one such program in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, and has been a one-time guest artist in programs in Puebla, Mexico; Portland, OR, USA; Esmeraldas, Ecuador; Belize City, Belize; and Bogota, Colombia. Additional entrepreneurial music projects have been presented in Massachusetts, Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut, and abroad under the auspices of New England Conservatory’s Community Partnership Program and Entrepreneurial Musicianship Grant, Yale’s Philip Francis Nelson Prize, and in coordination with the New Haven Public Schools.

Dr. Hunt is highly in demand as a clinician and educator. She has presented master classes at a number of colleges and universities, including the Yale School of Music, Columbus State University, Western Illinois University, Boise State University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, James Madison University, University of Virginia, and the National Conservatory of Colombia. Dr. Hunt is also experienced in running sectionals, and giving clinics for high school horn and other brass students. Dr. Hunt has adjudicated for the International Horn Competition of America, the Mid-South Horn Workshop Solo Competition, Illinois All-State auditions, and Illinois District 3 and 9 band auditions,  Please use the "contact" link in the upper right for more information on having Dr. Hunt visit your institution!

Dr. Hunt has been teaching privately since the age of 13, and has worked with students from age 2 to senior citizens. Most recently, Dr. Hunt spent five semesters on faculty at Illinois State University, where her students received a number of internal awards and scholarships. Successes of her private students outside the context of Illinois State include:

  • full-scholarship admission into BM and MM music performance and music education degree programs including at the University of Michigan

  • acceptance into Bluecoats Drum Corps - 2018

  • second horn in the Illinois All-State Honors Orchestra - 2018

  • first and second chair students in the Illinois All-State Orchestra - 2017, 2018
